Central Hall, Westminster, London, October 2, 2008
If you care about the environment but seriously wonder what the hell you can do about it in a world full of doom and gloom, Monty Don is a man worth hearing. The new president of the Soil Association is giving this year’s lecture about what we should – and can – do to help safeguard our food security and health. And Monty’s definitely a doer, not just a talker. In 2005, he brought together a group of offenders, mainly drug addicts, to work the land, the remarkable results of which were revealed in his book Growing Out Of Trouble. A respected journalist, he was The Observer’s gardening editor for 12 years and has been presenting garden and travel programs for 15 years, most recently Around the World in 80 Gardens. After Monty delivers his lecture, a panel of experts in the fields of energy and food production will debate his views. More than 500 delegates are expected to an event described as a great networking opportunity for growers, food business reps, government, media and members of the public. Proceedings kick off at 6pm and tickets cost £20. For more information click here.
